Smoking weed? It's no big deal, says Richard and Judy's Chloe

Richard and Judy’s daughter Chloe Madeley yesterday claimed smoking cannabis is ‘no big deal’, saying: ‘I think it’s pretty nothing actually.’

The 23-year-old, currently competing in ITV’s Dancing On Ice, made the comments about photographs of her inhaling from a cannabis pipe at a music festival.

When the pictures of the incident in Norfolk emerged two years ago, she issued an apology saying: ‘I was really stupid. I regret doing what I did and have learnt my lesson.’

But yesterday Miss Madeley said: ‘If I’m going to be totally honest, I don’t think that smoking weed is that big a deal.

‘I was really worried that people were going to be angry with me because I know how people feel about drugs. I immediately apologised.

‘But, with the exception of skunk, which has been proven to be dangerous, I think people might be surprised how many people smoke weed.

‘I don’t think a 19-year-old doing it in a field with ten of her best friends is something to send everyone into uproar.

'This is controversial and I know some people won’t like it but I’m not going to lie. I don’t think smoking weed is that big a deal.

‘I think it’s pretty nothing, actually. I am sorry if I’ve offended anyone. I don’t want to upset anyone, especially my parents’ fans.

‘That’s not my fanbase to upset and that wasn’t my intention but I think there are worse things in life, really.’

Miss Madeley’s comments come 17 months after she was fined £435 and banned from driving for 20 months after crashing her car while nearly twice over the drink-drive limit.

In an interview afterwards she wept as she described the event as ‘the worst moment of my life’.

But two years on Miss Madeley, who has posed in lingerie for a men’s magazine, said: ‘It could have been so much worse. I’m so grateful it wasn’t.’

Miss Madeley drank two Long Island iced tea cocktails – made up of rum, tequila, vodka, gin and triple sec – before getting behind the wheel of her Peugeot 206. The car was found abandoned in Barnet, North London. Miss Madeley was later arrested at her home nearby.

‘I honestly truly believed I was fine to drive,’ she said of the episode.

Miss Madeley now claims to have put her wild days behind her, having found love with film insurance salesman Glenn Crickmar, 24.

‘I definitely used to be a party girl,’ she said. ‘You do get invited to loads of things in this industry that you think would be quite cool. And it is fun at first. But the truth is you learn quite quickly that they’re quite boring.’

Miss Madeley said she was taking part in Dancing On Ice to challenge people’s perceptions that she is famous only for being Richard and Judy’s daughter.

‘People think I just dropped out of university and went, “Mum, Dad, get me a job in television,” ’ she said.

‘I did drop out of uni, but I worked in PR for a while and then I worked as a runner on Loose Women, The Alan Titchmarsh Show and Hairy Bikers, so I know how the industry works.’
